After the atomic bomb detonated over Hiroshima, a massive mushroom cloud rose nearly 60,000 feet into the sky. This cloud, created by the intense heat and pressure of the blast, carried with it pulverized debris, vaporized metal, and radioactive particles. Below, nearly everything within a two-kilometer radius was instantly incinerated. People were vaporized, buildings leveled, and fires ignited across the city.
