This is one of the yusoku designs, classical Japanese court patterns rooted in ceremonial dress and imperial textiles in the 7th century. The imperial flower of Japan, Kiku, the chrysanthemum, carries meanings of longevity, rejuvenation, and the quiet nobility of endurance. The hexagonal panel is shaped after kikko, the tortoiseshell pattern symbolizing resilience.
