Ingrained – Kumiko #2, 2023
Charcoal, acrylic on canvas
16" × 20"
The Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking lattice, covers the surface of the piece, built through layers created by removing masking tape from acrylic painting. The unclear, imperfect lines that remain speak to the invisible pressures of cultural expectation. A figure emerges from beneath the pattern may be quietly escaping the grid.
