The seigaiha (blue ocean waves) is a pattern of endless layered arches carrying a wish for continuous peace and prosperity. Constructed from washi tape instead of cotton thread, the stitched pattern covers the figure's body like her skin. Traditional patterns become a way of understanding culture and oneself more deeply; what has been absorbed, what brings comfort, and what quietly holds us in place. Is she sewing the pattern into herself, or pulling it free?
