Ingrained – Yukata Wagara #2, 2024
Charcoal, graphite, watercolor on paper
18" × 24"
This pattern comes from a yukata given to the artist by her parents in her early twenties, a garment she wore without fully appreciating its beauty at the time. The bold ichimatsu checkerboard pattern, carrying a meaning of continuous prosperity, is layered with large lilies, symbols of purity and grace.
