Japanese White-Eye & Plum Blossom, 2026
Watercolor, washi tape on wood panel
8" × 9.5"
The combination of Japanese white-eye and plum blossom is perhaps the most iconic of all kachō-ga, "bird-and-flower painting" in Japanese art. Plum blossoms were celebrated in Japan before cherry blossoms as a symbol of perseverance and renewal. They bloom in late winter, often while snow still falls. Together, they evoke early spring joy and the turning of the year.
